The Situation
Oxford Immunotec is a global immunodiagnostics business operating in a highly regulated life sciences environment. The procurement function needed senior leadership to take control of a significant and growing spend base, bring visibility and governance to newer areas of the business, and turn procurement into a source of measurable commercial value rather than a back-office task.
The business required someone who could step in at director level, take ownership quickly, and deliver change through to completion across roughly £40m of spend, without committing to a permanent executive hire. This is exactly where fractional procurement leadership earns its place.
Our Approach
Pro Outsourcing provided fractional Director of Procurement and Supply Chain leadership, owning the function and driving improvement across spend, process and governance. The work included:
- Taking control of approximately £40m of spend, improving visibility, governance and procurement control across new and existing business areas.
- Designing and embedding new procurement processes and procedures to bring consistency and control.
- Leading strategic procurement initiatives from definition through to full change delivery, not just recommendation.
- Targeting cost reduction activity at the categories and contracts where value could be released fastest.
The Results
The engagement delivered £4m of savings through procurement improvement and targeted cost reduction, alongside a stronger, better-governed procurement function. Spend that had previously lacked visibility was brought under control, new processes gave the business consistent commercial discipline, and strategic initiatives were delivered through to completion rather than left as plans. The result was a procurement function in materially better shape, with both immediate savings banked and lasting controls in place.
